WRITE YOUR LOCAL OFFICIALS:

My name is [YOUR NAME], I am a resident and voted for you in your latest election. Thank you for representing our community. I am pleading to you today, to please start a motion to place a moratorium on the use of tear gas and facial recognition technology in Seattle. The physical violence, use of force, and targeting of journalists and citizens with these war technologies is unacceptable. Our city watched on live television as tear gas, a weapon banned from international war is being used excessively against citizens and press. If we do nothing, we are complicit with these actions. Please act swiftly, if for some reason tear gas and facial recognition is the only way to provide stability, we can let the moratorium expire. If you take action on behalf of our community, this action could directly result in the deescalation of current and future conflicts in Seattle. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to your constituents. I have included my number if you have time to discuss further. I can help partner with you to get this done.

What NEEDS to be said though it might be a hard pill to swallow:
▪️ Tuning out is white privilege.
▪️ Peace is white privilege.
▪️ If you are neutral, you have sided with the oppressor.

The worst form of injustice is to pretend there is justice. So speak up for what is right. Take a stand. Get uncomfortable. Be apart of the conversation. Know better. Do better. BE BETTER. 👊🏿👊🏾👊🏽👊🏼👊🏻

With All My Heart,

Tara Rylie
